Adapting Integrated Approach in Fish Processing Industries to Reduce Natural Resource Consumption and Pollution loads, Lifting the Triple Bottom Lines
The goal of the project is to conserve marine biodiversity and sustain livelihoods for fishermen through upstream efforts like awareness generation and trainings on effective and efficient fishing practices as well as use of standard COD end size net to prevent dragging of fry and fingerlings. Downstream measures like process optimization and natural resources conservation through energy, water and cp assessment tools will also be undertaken in order to sustain livelihoods of the fish processing industry workers. Energy and water will be conserved in teh entire production chain and there will be a marked reduction in the pollution load from the fish processing industies into the marine ecosystem.

Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Improvement and adaptation of tools and techniques in processing and identification of technology gaps. Tools and techniques for screening of good quality fish, standardization of procedures for consistent size and quality of processed fish; cooling and preservation techniques; waste treatment and disposal procedures; assessment of pollutant loads and causes of origin will be adopted. Synchronization of resource conservation and optimization techniques in firms with regulation of fish catch cycles will improve fish catching procedures.
Policy Impact
It is proposed that the civic authorities will be involved in the assessment of impacts and shown the benefits of waste reduction. The positive nexus between waste generators and managers of waste treatment facilities will become evident. This will create greater partnerships in the waste reduction.
