Community-Based Resource Management and Development of Quirino?s Biodiversity
The Province of Quirino Lies in the southern portion of Cagayan Valley and within the central region of the Sierra Madre mountain range. The province is within geographical coordinates 15 degrees 57?- 16 degrees 39? latitude and 121degrees 21? ? 122 degrees 02? longitudes.
The province?s forestland was declared the Quirino Protected Landscape (QPL) through DENR Proclamation No. 548. This comprised about 67% or 206, 875 hectares out of total provincial land area of 305,720 hectares that includes 51 barangays in the Municipalities of Diffun, Maddela, Cabarroguis, Aglipay and Nagtipunan. The QPL encompasses 43 CBFM sites and 2 Certificates of of Ancestral Domain Cliams (CADC) covering 85, 896. 78 and 119, 330 hectares respectively. It also includes important watersheds in the province such as the Casecnan, Adadalem and the Ganano, all of which are considered part of the headwaters of the Cagayan River, the longest river system in the Philippines
The Primary goal of the proposed is to strengthen QSEED?s grassroots resources management, initiate NTFP development and management to address livelihood issues, and ecological campaigns that install substance of biodiversity conservation.
Specifically, the project aims for the following Objective:
1. Increase the capacity of the QSEED to deliver forest management services to its constituents in terms of planning, monitoring and protection;
2. Assist in the development of alternative income generation program for select individual POs for handicraft production as an entry point towards building conservation-based enterprise; and
3. Support the institution of ecological information among Quirino constituents both upland communities and schoolchildren.
