Communal restoration of mangrove communities in Nhangau, Sofala province
The mangrove forests in Sofala provide important habitats for a variety of plant and animal species. The mangroves are currently being harvested for firewood by a great number of people who often come from the nearby Beira city. This exploitation needs to be reduced so that the livelihoods of the nearby communities can be protected. The project aims to support sustainable use and management of the mangroves, through educational programmes, while conserving the biodiversity through tree planting and forest recovery. Partnerships will be developed to enhance the capacity for the NGO to continue working on the project in the future.
