Environmental protection in Manica Province through drama, posters, and lectures
A lack of knowledge about the environment in Manica province, coupled with increasing human populations, is encouraging exploitation of a very rich area in natural resources with items that cover several of the GEF focal areas like biodiversity, international waters, climate change and land degradation. Serra Chôa cultural association will establish a caravan promoting environmental education and awareness to community audiences along certain districts of the province. Interactive drama sessions, production of posters and leaflets, and lectures and debates will be a part of this scenario. These activities will integrate the whole community in participating in the rational use of existent natural resources, improving the quality of the environment and of their livelihoods. The project will also intervene on sanitation, community's mobilization in control of soil erosion, and promote reforestation with use of native species. Ultimately the communities will be more aware of community based natural resources management, and community organization.
