Promoting the planting of Samoan Fruit Trees " Organic Gardens"
The organic fruit tree project is part of the Women's Committee of Lepea's awareness raising using natural fertilizers to stop the use of chemicals in gardens and farming, as it is one of the major contributing factors to land degradation. The Women's Committee is the guardians of a tourist attraction site in the village, "Papasea Sliding Rocks", which frequently is visited by tourist from overseas and local people for picnics. This project will contribute to enhance the existing value of the area in its natural pristine stage, through planting of Samoan fruit trees that will provide perishable products for visitors and at the same time provide extra incentive to the committee for the maintenance of the site.
All unemployed women in the village will work in this project.
Objective: to provide an opportunity for young unemployed women of Lepea Village to implement an organic fruit farm to support their exisrting tourist attraction site.
