Fish Farming in Kuria District
Tobacco growing in Malakisi is a heavy user of trees for firewood. Trees are cut down for use in tobacco curing with little or no re-planting. This has led to heavy exploitation of forests and trees for firewood hence a danger to the catchment area as seen from the drying of seasonal streams of Nambuuya, Sitabicha and Tamlega within Malikisi location. the project will install 5 biogas units in 5 institutions in western Kenya, produce and sell 50,000 energy saving jikos and train 50 artisans in production, repair and sale of energy saving jikos.
