Project sustainability
The TEEP planning group will summarize fact finding missions, to concentrate on three main areas in the next stage of the project. Based largely on community consultation, these include support of income diversification initiatives, combating local pollution, and protection and continuation of traditional knowledge.
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
The Tsumkwe constituency is mainly populated by the San people, Ju/?hoansi in the east and the !Kung in the west. The San people are said to be one of the most marginalized indigenous peoples, not only in Namibia, but in all of Africa. There is a need to establish sustainable projects that combine the knowledge and culture of the San with environmental protection and initiatives. The Herero people, mainly in the Gam area and smaller groups of people from the Kavango, Damara and Owambo areas, also occupy the area.
