Building Capacity of Safarud Local Communities in Garbage Management to Reduce Pollution and protect the Forest Ecosystem
Project Location: Safaroud- Ramsar-Mazandaran(Lat/Long:36.907481-50.671692)
This project will be prepared and implemented in continuation of the Participatory Monitoring of Safaroud Forests by the local organization formed under that project.
The project was initiated through studies, research and meetings to evaluate the type, quantity and negative consequences of rural refuse. Forms were prepared for data collection on rural refuse and 60 individuals (70% women) were selected from local population as the volunteer implementation group through meetings.
Following training of the group, a total of 94 forms were completed in 7 villages namely: Milanat, Gavermak, Bamsi, Disser, Etchkolayeh, Estelkenar and Mazoulangeh and a databank was prepared resulting in a statistical table on the condition of the rural refuse from homes and animals. The information was prepared, published and disseminated in a newsletter. A film was also prepared on the current conditions of rural refuse. A group of instructors were selected from the members of the implementation team.
A special training session with specific outline was prepared by professional experts. An educational booklet was prepared by the instructors for the recipients. Then a educational guidebook was prepared for each target group along with educational brochures. Face to face training is currently underway.
In each village, the map of the village has been drawn and a suitable location for the refuse for the placement of the refuse bins for installation by the district office. The project will continue with public education campaigns in village meetings, schools, and with groups including tourists, local vendors for the segregation of the refuse and collection for recycling and compost manufacturing.
