Community Conservation Lakes and sustainable Livelihood Development
The project is about conserving the only existing flooded forest in the village. To avoid further clearing it is important to get a good financial benefit accrued from the forest which the villagers can use to substitute for the lost sources of livelihood. In this case bee keeping, mushroom growing, earthworm raising and pod culture, are identified as possible alternatives to clearing the forest.

Objectives:
(i) Two conservation lakes were established at Roleap Sen Lake and Chhoeng Domrie Lake in order to increase fish productivity, biodiversity and protect the flooded forest around those two lakes.
(ii) Kok Sdao and Teuk Hot Community Fisheries Federation will have the capacity to manage community and conservation lakes with good results.
(iii) Improve community livelihoods, especially for poor women, through providing other livelihood options such as mushroom growing, earthworm culturing and bee keeping for generating income to selected community members.
1.3 Outputs:
1. 20 ha of flooded forest around Roleap Sen lake in Kok Sdao village and 32 ha around Chhoeing Domrie lake in Teuk Hot village were conserved and protected.
2. Fish prodictivities in those two conservation increased and travel to other places made villagers can catch more fish by using family scale fishing gears for supporting their livelihood.
3. Community Committee mumbers have better understanding of community manange and the advatage of protection floode forest and conservation lakes.
4. Community members have understanding on how to use natural resources sustainably and activitvely pacticipated in protection of conservation lakes and stopping clearing flooded forest.
5. 20 community fisheries members have learnt how to grow mushroom and apply those knowledge and skills to earnt additional income for improving their livelihood.
6. 20 community fisheries members have learnt how to do earthworm culture and apply those knowledge and skills to earnt additional income for improving their livelihood.
7. 4 community fisheries members (2 in Kok Sdao village and 2 in Teuk Hot village) have learnt how to do bee keeping and apply those knowledge and skills to demontrate that livelihood option to other members and earnt additional income for improving their livelihood.
Project Activities:
The activities to be undertaken includes:-
- Demarkation of flooded forest conservation areas, placing singboard information board along Kok Sdao and Teuk community boundary.
- Identify areas fir planting flooded forest in degraded areas.
- Establishing Fisheries conservation areas (200m x 100m earch area) at Roleap Sen lake and Chhoeing Dpomrie lakes and fant around those areas.
- Rehular partrolling around community Fisheries Areas and fisheries conservation lake and protected flooded forest areas.
- Committee mumbers will have monthly meeting to evaluation their progress again plan.
- Proved training on Gender
- Provided training on administrative work and project management.
- Provide training on small business and markating
- Provide training on fisheries law and related sub-decree.
- Deseminate on the advantages of natural resources management to community members.
- Conduct studytours to learnt about earthworm culturing, mushroom growing and bee keeping.
- Provide trainings on earthworm culturing, mushroom growing and bee keeping.
- Prepare land for mushroom growing and place for rearthworm culturing.
- Select families for demontration of bee keeping and start testing it.

Project Characteristics and Results
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Sharing information with other neighboring villages will be encouraged throughout the project. It is expected that the neighboring villages will also get interested and wish to start similar activities.
Capacity - Building Component
Skill trainings on raising bee, earthworm, and growing mushroom will be provided to enable community members to implement project activities smoothly. The project will also conduct several study tours to other CBOs and NGOs with similar activities so that the community members can learn from good practices on bee and earthworm raising as well as mushroom growing. Other activities for capacity building of the community including: training the villagers about the environmental conservation, fisheries law, reforestation, as well as the administration and bookkeeping.
