Beekeeping as a method to conserve biodiversity (Popularization of beekeeping role in biodiversity conservation, and promotion of a high quality honey production to the local market)
The beekeeping provides additional opportunity for pollination, both wild-growing, including valuable medical species, and agricultural crops. Cost of additional crop received due to pollination 10-15 time exceeds the cost of production of apiaries, productivity various agricultural cultures at the normalized pollination by bees raises on 25-100%. Besides, beekeeping gives the most valuable products - honey, royal jelly, propolis, pollen, wax, beer poison which are the most valuable medical preparations. Bees promote cultivation of long-term forage crops that creates not only a good forage reserve for cattle breeding, but also improves the soil fertility, reduces a qualitative and quantitative level of weeds, supports of local fauna subsistence. All of this influences on environment stabilization.
Now beekeeping in Kazakhstan has serious difficulties:
- the amount of beekeeping farms is reduced; there is a loss of continuity - young do not aspire to be engaged in beekeeping;
- imperfection of the tax laws - beekeepers are obliged to pay for accommodation of beehives and apiaries on Forest fund territory and near the agricultural crops though all over the world it is accepted to pay to the beekeeper for every bee family, working on pollination.
- strong market competition to substandard and cheap production;
- beekeepers has not enough experience in promotion of the honey products to the market.
A wide information dissemination about benefit of beekeeping will allow not only to increase numbers of beekeepers, exit of the local production useful to health, but also to restore biodiversity of the region.
Considering importance and potential of the beekeeping, the project provides support of beekeeping development as one of the ways for wild-growing grasses diversity and agricultural crops quality recovery. The project is aimed at beekeeping profitability increase and increase of beekeepers incomes, employment rate and local community?s living standards and raise environmental education level among population.
