Development and Implementation of the Climate Change Materials in the Kazakh and Russian Languages for Grammar Schools in Atyrau and Mangistau Oblasts
Global climate change is the most serious ecological threat of XXI century. Today the issue of educational programs creation directed on public awareness of the problem becomes quite important.
The ecological situation In Atyrau and Mangystau oblast of Kazakhstan is deteriorated in connection with growth of industry, petroleum and gas production, while the given region is not advanced in the field of education for sustainable development and even ecological education. The climate change information and educational resources in the majority are inaccessible to teachers and pupils of the region.
The project goal is to create educational opportunities for children of Western Kazakhstan in the sphere of sustainable development, better understanding of climate change issues through distribution of relevant educational materials and methods among teachers of the area.
Project tasks:
1. Development and introduction of the region-oriented module on teachers training for realization of Program on Education for Sustainable Development and decrease of climate change consequences.
2. Maintenance with educational materials on Kazakh and Russian languages and with model of training resource for teachers of Atyrau and Mangystau oblast schools.
3. Increase understanding of climate change and greenhouse gas problems by teachers and students in context of sustainable development.
Expected results:
- The educational module is developed with view of regional ecological specific of Atyrau and Mangystau oblasts and level of environmental education. The module approved by the Ministry of Sciences and Education of Republic of Kazakhstan
- 500 copies of the manual «Environment for future generations» are published on Kazakh and Russian languages and distributed among schools of Atyrau and Mangystau oblasts
- 500 copies of posters dedicated to the problem of greenhouse effect published on Kazakh and Russian languages and distributed among schools of Atyrau and Mangystau oblasts
- 500 copies of a short videofilm are released on Kazakh and Russian languages and distributed among schools involved in the project
- 500 copies of the manual for teachers on climate change are published on Kazakh and Russian languages and distributed among schools schools involved in the project
- 100 teachers from Atyrau and Mangystau oblasts? schools have passed the training, received information on climate change problem and got skills of use the resources have given by the project. Trained teachers have gained skills of use of the training module on Education for Sustainable Development
- Not less than 5000 pupils of Atyrau and Mangystau oblasts? schools have got access to the training materials given by the project
- Final materials on results of the seminars and results of questioning are processed, translated to state language and presented to interested parties, mass-media, donor agencies.
