Use of alternative sources of energy for water supply of the mountainous areas (Implementatio and demonstration of potential for hydroram use for water supply of mountainous areas of the southern part of Kazakhstan to popularize alternative energy sources)
The basic barrier for agriculture, creation of mighty forest shelter belts, development of alternative activity for mountain region is absence of water supply. Absence of electric powers and petrol pumps unpredictability limits development of mountain district villages. A serious problem is not only air pollution because of petrol engines use, but also a noise which in conditions of high mountain acoustics scaring away animals and breaking the ecosystem balance.
Hydraulic ram (hydroram) allows successfully replace nonrenewable energy sources for renewable for use in water raising. Hydroram installation and successful functioning is possible in all natural zones of southern region, taking in account zone?s humidity, soils and waters occurrence depth.
Hydraulic ram application for water supply in mountain conditions of Zhambyl and South-Kazakhstan oblast will allow to show opportunities of hydraulic ram use as the alternative energy source, promoting water resources preservation and rational use, regions social and economic development, ecosystem and biological resources conservation by water supply maintenance on tourist bases territories, private farms and hunting ground.
The project goal is alternative energy sources propagation by hydraulic ram introduction and demonstration of its opportunity in water supply of the mountain territories of Zhambyl and South-Kazakhstan oblasts (villages Berkara, Tonkeris, Sastobe).
Project tasks:
1. Water supply maintenance in mountain areas of Zhambyl and South-Kazakhstan oblasts (villages Berkara, Tonkeris, Sastobe) by installation of a number of hydraulic rams.
2. Carrying out of information campaign to inform target groups and local communities about hydrorams.
3. Arrange of trainings for tourist camps owners, farmers, interested persons, etc.;
Expected results:
1. Water supply of villages Berkara, Tonkeris and Sastobe of Zambyl and South-Kazakhstan oblasts by installation by installation of hydraulic rams for 1500 beneficiaries
2. Demonstration of hydraulic ram opportunity use as the alternative energy source, promoting water resources preservation and rational use, regions social and economic development, ecosystem and biological resources conservation by water supply maintenance on tourist bases territories, private farms and hunting ground
3. Development and duplicating of the brochure «New water-saving technologies»
4. Carrying out of seminar on introduction of new water use technology for heads of tourist bases and farms owners.
5. Carrying out training seminar on hydraulic ram maintenance works for local people (3 people of each hydoram). Involvement in seminar not less than 15 people.
6. Preparation of promoting videoclip on CD-disks in amount of 100 copies, propagating new saving technologies use for water supply.
7. Carrying out of the actions propagandizing alternative energy sources.

Project Characteristics and Results
Capacity - Building Component
A special seminar on alternative energy sources for water pumping for tourist bases owners, farmer, interested parties will be arranged. Peoples will receive skills on hydraulic ram maintenance that will strength their capacity in further use of an alternative energy source
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Due to maintenance of water supply local communities will have opportunity to expand fields of activity by creation of campings, tourist bases, nursery, etc., that in its turn will raise occupation and livelihood level. Local people will be interested in protection of natural resources as they give opportunity to expand sphere of service services.
