The project is one out of ten projects in the Kilome Division Land Degradation Cluster in Makueni district in the Eastern Province of Kenya. The Kilome division land degradation cluster projects lie within about 40 square kilometres. All ten projects aim at reducing / preventing land degradation by focusing on the rehabilitation of gullies, water tanks for domestic and agricultural use, establishment of terraces and intercropping methods and reafforestation of catchment areas. The ten CBOs implementing the respective projects are supervised and coordinated by Kenya Initiatives for Development (KID) which has the role of a lead NGO.

This project plans to carry out the following activities:


? Fence off Kavuko Community Conservation Centre (KCCC).
? Purchase a laptop computer, digital camera, GPS, furniture, and telephone.
? Oversee carrying out of EIA for Kilome Land Degradation Cluster Project.
? Oversee development of Land use/Land cover map of the Kilome Land Degradation Project area.
? Cater for transport costs of the engineer and construction materials
? Oversee construction of 3 offices, hall, sentry and an ablution block at KCCC.
? Oversee installation of solar lighting system at the KCCC.
? Cater for printing, Binding, Photocopying services for Kilome Land Degradation Cluster projects for 18 months.
? Oversee production of publicity materials
? Cater for 2 stakeholders? seminars/workshops
? Refund KID money spend during launch of Kilome Land Degradation Cluster Project.
? Cater for Video/TV documentary for Kilome Land Degradation projects
? Cater for Project Co-ordinator?s expenses
? Cater for Project Director?s expenses to tour all projects
? Cater for Project Co-ordinator?s expenses
? Pay for Project Co-ordinator?s driving training
? Buy the Project Co-ordinator a mobile phone
? Write and submit final project report to UNDP-GEF/SGP by March 2008.
