Demonstration of Alternative Energy (Solar Applications) and Alternative Livelihoods Through Sustainable Land Management Practices for Mushahar Community in North Bihar
Goal of project: To demonstrate solution of water logging problem in North Bihar thereby promoting sustainable agriculture and create awareness about the issue of water logging in the Gandak Command area

Purpose/Objective of the project:

1) To demonstrate replicable models which combine appropriate technology interventions with 'community centred local administration model' for effective water logging management in selected villages in Saran district of Bihar.
2) To establish mutually beneficial proactive linkages between the local government and the waterlogged prone communities for arriving at effective waterlogging management systems consisting of participatory planning, implementation and evaluation.
3) Promotion of sustainable agriculturte through locally available resources.

Project outputs:

1) About 300 acres of land will be available for cultivation after draining out of stagnant water thereby substantially increasing income of 500 farmer families.
2) People living in and around the chour will be saved form different water borne diseases like skin disease, worms, diarrhoea, asthama etc. caused by logged water in the region.
3) Migration of male workforce will be checked because of availability of job in agriculture sector resulting in utilisation of workforce locally.
4) People will start raising the issue more efficiently after demonstartionto the government and put pressure to implement such programmes.
5) Agriculture production will be increased up to 30% enabling the farmers to run with the mainstream of the nation as they will be able to afford technological improvements in agriculture.
6) It is difficult to measure the success of awareness building but we will try to get the questions raised in the state's Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) because that is the only place from where the resources will come. Once the people are aware that they should be asking the facilities from the government , the pace will set up and the work will continue.
