RMI: Sustainable Livelihood: Demonstrating Sustainable Handicraft Production and Marketing as a Small Business for Women in Marshall Islands
This project is to pilot a sustainable handicraft promotional system for RMI that addresses the problems and challenges, starting on 3 atolls (Ailinglaplap, Jaluit, Maloelap), to help sustain the resources and the lives of the people in these atolls. The system will provide:
*technical assistance to the outer island women;
*a distribution channel;
*establish business connections between the outer island women crafters and the handicraft traders on Majuro and Ebeye.
*a website www.wutmi.org;
*nurseries of indigenous trees int eh three attolls that can be used for making handicrafts and preventing coastal erosion.
*seashell collection and protection knowledge and practices that can be shared in the public media, in the WUTMI conferences as well as in the schools.
