The project is located in the main island of Pohnpei around which a network of marine protected areas have been established and maintained by the communities. Community support varies to some degree and enforcement is also an issue so the need to link the MPAs to some enterprises that can enable the communities to also see the added benefit of a MPA.

Project Goal is to have self-sufficient and profitable small-scale aquaculture enterprises for individuals from the Marine Protected Areas (MPA) communities on the island of Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia. Objectives inlcude the provision of training, technnical assistance and extension services to families and individuals within MPA communities to start and maintain aquaculture farms/business; reseach and develop simple farming techniques for new soft/hard corals species and transfer of this technology to farmers in the MPA communities; provide business and marketing training for producers of sustainable aquaculture products.

The agricultural development method being piloted is the so-called "Nucleaus Estate Model" where the Grantee organization is the central production unit and satellite farmers getting assistance from the organization.
