An Integrated Environmental Conservation through Awareness Creation on Solar Energy and Community Capacity Building,
The project purpose is to create awareness to the community members on the use of solar energy as an alternative source of energy in ten wards of Bukoba and Muleba districts respectively. Most of the remote areas in Kagera region have no access to the electricity power. The community members in these areas despite of their low income have been incurring high expenses for domestic energy use that is provided through fuel wood and kerosene respectively. Most of the people in Kagera region are unaware of the use of renewable energy they therefore spend a lot of money on kerosene and firewood for cooking and lighting. In the process they are led to fumes from kerosene lamps, failure to enhance school children to carryout private studies at night, failure to conduct income generating activities at night and spend a lot of money on buying kerosene and firewood. To address the above mentioned challenges SOLCAT will conduct the following; mobilize the community members to establish multipurpose tree nurseries and demonstration woodlots, promote the uses of solar energy as an alternative source of energy through installation of solar systems to the ten community centers/public institutions and fifteen household installations the project will also facilitate conduction of the community exposure visit to the areas which have advanced in the use of solar energy as an alternative source of energy.
