The purpose of the planning grant request is to fund the process of developing a project proposal for submission to COMPACT by the HFA to implement the uses of shades as a sustainable fishing technology in the South Water Caye Marine Reserve (SWCMR). It will allow the fishers to sustainably utilize the SWCMR which is part of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System ? World Heritage Site. This grant is needed to allow the association to conduct consultations in Hopkins village with various stakeholders including the fishers, the Fisheries Department, Friends of Nature (FoN), Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and COMPACT Programme office.
