23 solar energy units for illuminating domestic households in the community of Sector Sibinal, Aldea Quecá, Sipacapa, San Marcos, Guatemala
The project will benefit 23 families, half of the beneficiaries are women. The project is an expansion of a previous SGP project that will provide solar energy to the households in the community that are still without electricity. The 23 domestic units will include a solar panel, a battery, a regulator, cables and accessories.
Installation and maintenance of the equipment will be done by trained group members. Project beneficiaries will contribute labor, in kind and local materials. The beneficiaries will be trained in installing and maintaining the solar energy systems, in risk management, gender issues and in administration.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Access to electricity will enable new economic activities to be undertaken, especially allowing evening work hours, enhancing the local economy. Human capital will be strengthened by enabling evening study for both children and adults. The local health centre will have longer opening hours.The community hall will allow more social interaction and training opportunities.
