Kageye Combating Land Degradation is aimed at reversing biodiversity loss and contributing to climate change abatement while improving people?s livelihood through ecological restoration of degraded ecosystems along the roads and adjacent farmlands through planting of multi-purpose trees in Wamala, Wakiso District.

Project Characteristics and Results
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
The local people's are willing and able to provide positive support towards this project. The project will involve conducting of sensitization workshops and consultative meetings. The local community members will be involved in the tree planting exercise, management and evaluation process, which will take place through out the project cycle.
The people in villages have been assured that the trees will be theirs and not for the district. But, there will be guidelines to be followed if one wants to fell a tree.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The project will improve people?s livelihood by improving land management in road reserves and farms, which will result into improved soil productivity. Local farmers? capacity to conserve biodiversity and protect international waters will be strengthened through their participation in project activities (e.g. sensitization programs, nursery bed preparation and management, tree planting and project evaluation, which will be conducted). The project is expected to improve on the income of about 5000 households.
