The project aims to develop a management model for the Giresun Island which is a nesting and breeding habitat for several threatened birds including the Phalacrocorax aristotelis desmarestii, Melanitta fusca and Aythya fuligula. The area is currently used by local people as a touristic attraction however there is pressure on the local administration that there are no infrastructure on the island. The project aims to keep the existing structure of the island intact, while at the same time, allowing a controlled and nature-friendly tourism, through the participatory preparation of a "Conservation and Eco-tourism Development Plan" in close cooperation with the Giresun Governorship. The project also aims to establish the foundations for protection of the area under an appropriate protected area status.
