Biodiversity Preservation in Vistytis Region
47 families participating in the project had received 40 cows of local Lithuania breed and 4 horses of Zemaitukai breed. This way community contributed to the preservation and promotion of the local agricultural breeds, and in addition people could receive additional income from their agricultural activities. Moreover, as people had to prepare hay for the cattle, they maintained over 215 ha of natural meadows and this way contributed to the protection of rare and endangered species of the grasslands.
Pupil from Vistytis school of P. Kriuciunas were actively participated in project activities, took part in voluntary public works, participated in competitions of drawing and essays, were resting in summer camp.
During 12 trainings and information seminars on cattle breeding, cooperation of farmers, gender issues, biodiversity protection and other local people had learned many interesting things that they could practically apply to improve their households and surrounding environment.

Notable Community Participation
About 50 families from Vistytis and neighboring communities are involved in the project and will maintain 200 ha of valuable natural grasslands
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The communities will meet their economic needs and will receive income from the extensive breeding of cattle.
At the same tame they will graze and maintain natural meadows and will sustain conditions favorable for rare plants as well as will contribute to the protection of the gene pool of the rare local breeds of cattle and horse.
