The use of renewable energy in water supply in Rokeeb village, Socotra, Yemen
Rokeeb village located to the east of Hadibo capital city of Socotra. There live 63 families in 41 homesteads and a total population of 345 inhabitants. Water source is a distance away well where women bring it home on their back. It took more time and no enough water is available in their homes.
Community proposed having a solar energy driven pumping system to convey water at home stead through a networks of piping to reduce women labour. Project sustainability is secure through installation of water meters in each homestead where each house hold pays for into a revolving fund box.
In addition to water supply the project helps community to build their awareness of the environmental values and project sustainability.
