Promotion of energy efficency measures in daily activities of a local community -a contribution for the solution of a global problem
Promotion of energy efficency measures in daily activities of a local community -a contribution for the solution of a global problem
In the recent decade Albanian has been passing several energy crisis mainly due to an ever-increasing demand for electricity from domestic consumers. The only response so far has been that of increasing the amount of electricity imported and recently concrete steps are being taken for the construction of power generating facilities operated on fossil fuels such as oil and gas.
Since the residential housing industry is still the most dynamic one and at the same time the greatest electricity consumer one should be expecting great efforts spent in the direction of improving the energy efficiency in this direction. This is not happening. Although the country has a great potential for benefiting from the renewable sources of energy such as solar and geothermal, practically nothing is being made at the level of national policies in this direction.
SGP has addressed this issue in several of its projects and thinks that despite the fact that there seems not to be any change in the tendency there it a real need for continuing building the awareness in this direction.
This project will promote the use of energy efficient appliances and compact fluorescent lighting in the houses. It will provide information on energy efficiency rating for different household appliances and will also demonstrate the economics behind such choice.
