Education and awareness programmes carried out on soil conservation mechanisms (stone terraces, Gliricidia live hedges (SALT systems), and drains), residue recycling (compost making), crop diversification and introduction of timber and fruit trees were effective.

Community participation is good and they have formed a society, networking with all project participants, and some credit facilities were also provided in addition to the project implementation activities and other social responsibilities. Attitude changes towards positive thinking, and confidence development on what they are doing and what they can do right, was also observed as construction output of the project.

Establishment of stone terraces, Gliricidia live hedges and making drains as soil conservation measures were carried out very satisfactorily.

Farmers mentioned that though they have not reduced the amount of organic fertilizer used they have noticed significant yield improvement compared to previous with addition of organic matter obtained mainly form Gliricidia. Farmers are with the view that they may be able to reduced inorganic fertilizer used when the Gliricidia hedges are well established and adequate amount of green manure is obtained.
