Mwanga Organic Beekeeping Development Project
Mwanga district is mostly comprised of infertile land and low annual rainfall. These conditions make most part of the district not suitable for agriculture as source of income for the communities in the area. The project's main objective (which is aslo economic benefit) is to generate income and hence contribute to poverty reduction iniatives of the target groups through organic bee keeping. The specific objectives include: (1) To improve organic honey production both in quantity and quality by using modern beehives and other equipment and observing technical advice by experts. (2) To build capacity on appropriate harvesting, processing and packaging methods of honey to avoid wastage and ensure quality of honey (3) To secure and maintain reliable markets for honey and by-products.
