Syria is considered one of the nations with very old silk industries; the region was already known for its silk by the first century. Syria achieved distinction in the production of textiles and flourished especially in silk production, a handicraft practiced by the Syrian people for centuries. The main aim of this project is to draw attention to the strategic and cultural importance of the natural silk industry. this will be achieved through: - Establishing a 'museum' for handmade silk crafts - Organizing a national fair for handmade silk products. -Organizing a national campaign to raise awareness on the national importance of the industry, targeting decision-makers, silk-growers and the general Syrian public

The project targets all households in the village, in particular those who have the interest and experience to undertake silkworm raising or silk production activities, including: 2. Growing mulberry tree orchards 3. Assuring modern equipment 4. Establishing silkworm-raising houses 5. Undertaking a marketing study and organizing a national advertising campaign 6. Establishing a 'museum' for handmade silk crafts 7. Organizing a national fair for handmade silk products 8. Organizing a national campaign to raise awareness on the national importance of the industry, targeting decision-makers, silk-growers and the general Syrian public 9. Undertaking training sessions for silk-growers 10. Preparing publications and pamphlets
