Implementation of the Local Network of Sustained Natural Cerrado Resource Use
Implementation of the Local Network of Sustained Natural Cerrado Resource Use
The project is located in the largest preserved Cerrado area in the country. The fragile economy in the region is based on extensive cattle ranching for subsistence. The sandy soils are highly susceptible to erosion and not suitable for farming. Fields must be cleared in riparian wood areas and humid fields.
Golden grass (Syngonanthus nitens) handicrafts have brought income for families, although accelerated production can be a threat to its sustainability, thus creating the need for identification of new forms for generation of income.
This project will support initiatives for generation of income for communities in the surroundings of Jalapão State Park, by means of capacity-building on topics of hygiene and packaging of food products, assistance in harvesting raw materials, definition of proper packaging, marketing and creation and organization of a Jalapão biodiversity production network named Jalapão Network. The project will also support Jalapão State Park in the recovery of degraded areas with production of 3 thousand seedlings
