Rehabilitation of Moon River Ecosystems
Target Population/Location of project:
1,013 families (5,736 people) from seven villages in Thatoom District. Nearly all project members (90%) are farmers, and depend on the provisions of the middle Moon River ecosystems. Local livelihoods are threatened by the degradation of these ecosystems due to deforestation, destructive fishing, soil erosion, and rampant development. Major stakeholders include:

? Petroleum Authority of Thailand
? Nongbua Tambol Administrative Organization
? Thatoom District office of Disaster Prevention
? Thatoom Municipality

Planned activities:
1. Conduct rehabilitation activities, including: resource inventories, reforestation, and demarcation of conservation zones
2. Establish a center for ?local knowledge transfer?
3. Build capacity of project members through workshops, meetings, youth camps, and study tours
4 Monitor and evaluate project; disseminate results

Anticipated outputs:
1. 10 km along the Moon River, and 10 ha of wetland rehabilitated with plantation of soil-retaining species
2. Two fresh water habitats used sustainably, in accordance with community regulations
3. Surveillance groups established (10 members/community
4. Knowledge compiled re: fish conservation and ecosystem rehabilitation
