Restoration of the traditional use of pastures in Kyrash village (Rehabilitation of nomadic paths of traditional cattle breeding in Kyrash village, and ceasing pasture degradation round the village by means of irrigation of the foothills and use of summer pastures in Karatau mountains)
Kyrash settlement is located in Kyzylorda area. It has favorable conditions for development of pasturable animal industries as a primary activity of local community. There are 127 homesteads in the settlement. The area of pastures round the village is 19970 hectares. The total number of the livestock is 24000 sheep, 300 large horned livestock, 450 horses and 150 camels. The herd is tended around the settlement, which results with a strong pasture degradation. There are mountain pastures, however, they cannot be used by inhabitants, as the foothill valley is absolutely deprived with watering places.
The purpose of the project is to restore nomadic ways of traditional cattle-breading and to put a stop to the pastures degradation around the settlement through water supply of the foothills and use of summer pastures in Karatau mountains.
The tasks of the project are
- water supply of 11000 hectares pastures at the foot hiils,
- Moving the livestock to the summer pastures
- Training of shepherds in rational pastures use.
The project activities will assure traditional (correct) seasonal pastures use and raise cattle breading productivity in Kyrash settlement. Over 11 000 hectares will be supplied with water. Loading on pastures around the settlement will be decreased two times. Preconditions for restoration of the degraded sites will be created.
