Development of pastures in kazakh low-hill area by the local community of Karakol village» (Introduction of rational pasture use system on the eastern part of Kazakh low-hill area, and creation of estuary area in the flood-lands of Karakol river)
Karakol settlement is located in a dry-steppe zone of Kazakhstan. Population is 2685 people (which is 628 homesteads). The area of pastures round the village is 163300 hectares. The total number of the livestock is 12700 sheep, 4312 large horned livestock, 1340 horses and 3420 goats.

Cattle-breading has become the main occupation of the local community of the Karakol village, and now growth of the livestock in each homestead can be observed. New reforms in the country, introduction of private property for land, loss of the earlier existed knowledge of pasture use and lack of financial resources to rehabilitate rational pasture use methods has led to pastures overgrazing.

The project tasks are
1.Moving the livestock to the pastures on the Kazakh Low-hill mountains
2.Reducing of pressure on the existed pastures.
3.Creating estuary area in the flood-lands of Karakol river on the square of 250-300 hectares and conservation of the pastures round the village.
4.Demonstration and propaganda of distant-pasture use in a dry-steppe zone of East Balkhash area.

Expected results
1.Expanding of the estuary area for 300 hectares with increasing of the crop capacity of the fields
2.Moving of 500-600 head of cattle to the pastures of the Low-hill Mountain annually
3.Reducing of pressure on the existed pastures for 6,6 %.
