Fodder base enhancement by the flood and hayfield mowing. (Rehabilitation of degraded pastures round Zhumay village for the purpose of sustainable development of the settlement)
Zhumay settlement is located in a dry-steppe zone of Kazakhstan. Population is 165 people. The area of pastures round the village is 736 hectares. The total number of the livestock is 450 sheep, 300 large horned livestock and 80 horses. Maintenance of the livestock in stall and all-the-year-round cattle grazing round the village, the public pastures are strongly degraded, their efficiency has decreased to a minimum.

The project is directed on restoration of the degraded pastures round the settlement, decrease loading on pastures, increase of productivity of natural haymakings and sowed pastures, raise efficiency of livestock through creation of estuary area, crop of permanent grasses.

Expected results
Increase of areas of haymakings for 200 hectares due to restoration and constant operation of 3 dams.
Creation of the sowed haymakings on the area of 600 hectares.
Increase in manufacture of hay from 200-250 tons up to 1400-1500 tons annually.
Increase of the milk yield for 15% from each cow.
Decrease loadings on pastures round the village.

Project Characteristics and Results
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
A special seminar will be arranged for farmers and local authorities of neighboring districts located in the same climatic zone and having faced similar problems. A video-film about each stage of the project activity will be created to be further demonstrated for propagation of the experience gained during the project.
Notable Community Participation
All Zhumai village inhabitants will participate in this project realization. All of them are living by cattle breeding and good conditions of community pastures ia the garantee of their future.
