Project Characteristics and Results
Replication of project activities
As project focuses on forest resource based livelihoods of tribal-PTG-Non-tribal communities and providing alternative livelihood, Learnings and experiences from this project could be replicated in most of forested and tribal areas of Chattisgarh and other states towards ensuring sustainability of resource use through use of traditional knowledge and alternatives to reduce biotic pressures.
Project sustainability
Biodiversity Management Committees are proposed to be formulated with the accreditation of Gram Sabha. The same BMCs are also proposed in the mandate of State Biodiversity Conservation Rules in conformation of Biodiversity (Conservation) Act 2004 of parliament. Precisely before the enactment of Rules in Chhattisgarh, this project would establish the community groups leading to BMCs, and these BMCs will be accommodated/ adopted in government?s conservation move. Then these institutions formed in this project will attain legitimacy and thus will sustain.
As this area is comprising of mosaic of tribal-including PTG, SC and OBC with heavy dependence on forest and land based resources represent one of very poor parts of the country where in efforts are on to achieve developmental goals. Linkages with Forest Deaprtment, District and Local Government institutions will be made to ensure the integration of this experience with larger developmental schemes at District, state as well as national levels.
