Community Led Participatory Initiatives using local Knowledge for water Harvesting for promoting Rural Development in the Remote Areas of Alwar District in Rajasthan
The project will revive the traditional water harvesting systems through community based approaches following the watershed management approach. This will result in recharge of ground water and augmentation in water level in the wells, leading to provide drinking water available to community during summer months. Vegetative measures will be undertaken to increase retention of soil moisture and stabilization of watershed structures. This will assure irrigation in summer months and better vegetation cover in wastelands, pastures and the grazing lands for longer time duration.
Local communities, especially women will be mobilized for employment generation for the people below poverty line people through execution of these water harvesting projects and sanitation pits. Community mobilizers will be trained to sensitize and educate community members particularly women on water issues particularly management during drought and famine.
