School Environmental Conservation Project
School Environmental Conservation Project
In many areas, environmental degradation has been reported to increase with adverse effects on economy, health and social livelihood. Environmental degradation through deforestation has been done in natural and artificail forests causing adverse rain shortages, soil erosion and drought. Mamba Vunta in Same District Kilimanjaro Region is one of the areas that has been affected by environmental degradation whereby land has been cleared due to harvesting of trees for energy generation, agriculture and agroforestry industries. Community lack knowledge and skills or are unaware of conservation and protection efforts needed to maintain and improve their environment. This brings about the need for environmental conservation programme throguh prevention of soil erosion, planting of trees and farming using terraces so as to reduce poverty, improve health and other social economic effects resulted from environmental degradation. This project is expected to deal with these challenges.

The Parane Secondary School was established in 1975. the school has 472 students and 40 employed staff. The school also operated a Health Centre, Tree nursery, Environmental Education Centre in collaboration with community and local government through participatory and sustainable development approaches.

The main objective of the project is to reduce poverty and improve health, social and economic status of the small peasant farmers in Mamba Vunta area through establishment of environmental conservation programme.
