Empowering local communities with skills for sustainable utilization of wild vegetables for poverty reduction and biodiversity conservation in East and West Usambara and Udzungwa Mountain Blocks
Wild vegetables have been abandoned for exotic vegetables. As a result, most wild vegetables have either disappeared or are on the verge of extinction. Therefore, under this project scientists will collaborate with local communities to restore and domesticate wild vegetables and fruits for food and conservation. The local communities will also learn how to collect/harvest, process, package and market of these biodiversity products. The project main objective is to train local communities on appropriate methods for collecting, domesticating, processing, packaging, sonsumption and marketing of wild vegetables and fruits. It will also promote sustainable utilization of wild vegetables and fruits for houseold food security and biodiversity conservation.
