Installation of solar hot water heaters .

Huruma Hospital serves a population of 24,000 of Rombo district and neighboring districts. The hospital has a capacity of 300 beds and has medical, surgical and pediatric services. Hospital admits patients who receive food and water for bathing prepared by using fuel wood. The Hospital consume up to 7 tons of wood per month for the purpose.
This project is aiming at providing solar heater which will warm water for bathing to reduce the consumption of fuel wood at the Hospital in order to conserve the forests in Rombo.

The project has been replicates by other hospitals under the Roman Catholic leadership as this Hospital is under the Church leadership in collaboration with the Government.

The project provided training on training and operation ofthe solar equipment. The Hospital will also continue to contribute in the sustainability of solar project.

The project will create awarenes on conservaton of forests througth the use of solar energy.The project will serve % of the 7 tons of wood consumed at the Hospital.

The project will traing Hospital staff on operation and maintanance of solar equipments.

Project Results

The project has successfull achived to reduce firewood consuption by 40 % which was used for warming water for bathing. The Hospital is also using fuel efficient cooking stove to reduce the consuption of fuel wood in cooking. The project have contribute in environmental coservation.

The project will speed up the healing process due to increased cleaness of the patients.

The workload and the risk which the Hospital staff were involved in the cource of preparing warm water for bathing will be reduced.
