Tree planting activities on watersheds and forest reserve glades.

The aerial survey on the threats on the natural forest of Mount Kilimanjaro ecosystem indicates that the rate of tree cutting in the natural forest and the half milestrip area is alarming. With reference from this report Rombo district througth a CBO called KEDA Rombo has proposed to undertake tree planting and watersheds, halfmile strip area in Rombo and on community farms.
The project target to improve the availability of forest products to the communities and also to enhanced community participation in forest conservation activities.

1.The project has a component of Agroforest which will improve the farming activities in the area and thus contribute in better livelhood. The project will also give opportunity to sell tree seedlings which will generate income generating to sustain daily lives of the communities in the area.

Project sustainability

Sustainability of this project lies on the sell of tree seedlings from the CBO nurseries. The project also provided training and established tree nurseries at school.

Replication of project activities

The project was replicated by other organizations dealing with tree planting in Rombo District.

Project Results

Established tree nurseries will provide seedlings to be planted in water catchments in the forest area which was destroyed and therefore improve the area and water flow.
The practicing of Agroforest in community farms will increase crop yield by the households as well as increade income.
The project in the future will engage in construction of fuel efficient stove as an economic activity but also as a means to reduce the consumption of fuelwood.
