Kilimanjaro Souvenir and Beekeeping activities.

This project intends to promote the economic development of women and children through income generating initiatives. The project will train women in the improvement of their knowledge in souvernoir making.The project will also focus on conservation of Karanga river througth beekeeping activities. The project will plant Bee attracting tree species which is also useful in land improvement. Tree planting will attract of various bee species and insects thus improving biodiversity along Karanga river.

1. It is believed that bee keepers will be getting good income from the sales of harvested bee products.

1. Women will be trained on modern bee keeping practices as well as souvenir making, this improve their capacity in bee keeping and souvenir making.

Project sustainability

KIWODEA has managed to produce souvenir and honey for selling this will generate income for sustainable development as well as improved family health.The training will aslo contribute in project sustainability.

Policy Influence

The project will contribute to provide feedback of the policy on conservation of river regimes as sources of water for income generaton and poverty reduction.

This project has been replicated by other women groups within Kilimanjaro region.

Project Results

(1) Women in this project were equiped with beekeeping skills,souvenir making as well as environmental conservation education which made women self sufficient dispite being considered as a vulnerable group in the society.For long, beekeeping was considered to be an activity for men. This project has benefited the women group with the beekeeping knowledge.

(2) The project also contributed in the conservation of Karanga river.This river provides water for the dry lowland communities as well as Nyumba ya Mungu water dam which produces electricity for about half of the country.
