Community based schools program to insure environmental sustainability around Mount Kilimanjaro forest reserve in Moshi and Hai districts.

The project is schools focused whereby pupils are trained and participate in environmental conservation from their youthful stage, this will lead to a environmental conscious society in the future hence conserving the environment.The project involves tree planting and fuel efficient stoves construction to the schools in the project coverage area, this technology may easily be adopted by families learning from the school performance of the stoves such as reduction in wood fuel use, hygiene and time serving effects.

Notable Community Participation

1. Community will participate (including school children) in the tree planting exercise.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

1. Public awareness will be raised on land management through planting trees hence fight against land degradation. 2. Awareness on the use of efficient stoves will contribute to reduction in deforestation hence conservation of Mount Kilimanjaro ecosystem.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

1. Since some trees will be planted at homesteads, women will reduce their workload in search of woodfuel after a certain period of plant growth; this will give room for other economic activities.

Gender Focus

1. The project will involve both gender in execution, however at the end women workload of searching for firewood and cooking by use of efficient cooking stoves.

Capacity - Building Component

1. Through technical supervision, the project may lead to built capacity on tree planting as well as charcoal stove making and utilization.

Inovative Financial Mechanisms

1. Tree seedlings can be sold fo rincome generation. 2. Improved stoves can be installed at household level so providing income to technicians.

1.The local people and including students will participate in the project.

Replication of project activities

The knowledge of planting indiginous trees especialy blackwood has been replicated by other groups in Moshi rural, this include, KIVIWAMA, MAKONDE GROUP.

Project sustainability

The project has trained school children and they will continue as best conservation practice.

Project Results

-The project has planted 250 Black wood trees around Kiyungi Village in Hai District.
-The project has planted 50,000 other trees around Sungu village
