Treated municipal waste water as a source of water for pad irrigation.
This project has been developed to address the water related conflicts which are associated to water scarcity in areas on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. With the increase in population and investment, there is increasing water demand from agriculture and industrial sectors. This project focuses on increasing availability of water for irrigation.
The primary objective of this project is to demonstrate the use of treated municipal waste water as a potential source of water for irrigation which is expected to reduce pressure to fresh water resources.
The recycled water for agricultural activities has proved to increased agricultural production as it contains nutrients. The use of recycled water for irrigation will demonstrate solution to conflict for water for irrigation but also contribute in increase their income and reduce food poverty. The project will provide training to farmers on safety while using this water.
