MUE River conservation project.

MUE (Mabungo) river was under threat due to anthropogenic causes . Being an important tributary to the Pangani river which is important contributer to the Hale power plant, there is a need to conserve catchment area. Tree planting along the water source and conservation of areas near the river and water source has been selected as a remedy to the situation, whereby this project will adress them.

Sustainability of this project is on sell of the tree seedlings from the tree nursery established by the project.

This project has a linkage with the project on conservation of Pangani river basin. The project focus on conservation of rivers which makes the Pangani Basin.

Replication of project activities

Througth Government efforts under joint forest management policy tree are planted on communal lands and government forests.

Project Results

- The project managed to plant different tree species along Mue river and Ngangu hill which were most affected by soil erosion. A total of 7000 tree seedlings has been planted in Ngangu hill, Mue river banks, Kirueni spring and in Mkyashi village.
- The project has trained 120 people on soil conservation and tree planting activities.
