Community Based Recovery and Protection of Environment, 100 Women Planting 1000 Trees, in Tondano, North Sulawesi
Ecological Threat:
The community had survived several problems, related to their ecosystem, which also had been their major livelihood resource. The complex problems faced by the community natural resources management are abbration, deforestation through over-used of farming pesticide, which later directly impact on the unemployment, migrant worker, trafficking, poor nutrition and uneducated drop-out young generation.
Goals:
The idea is basically community-based recovery and rescue on natural resources. The community-based management was chosen taking into account the family-socialy safetynet approach, in line with similar interest and understanding the nature of society (with an extended family understanding, knowledge on each strong point and weaknesses) to make sure good communication.
OBJECTIVES:
1.To consolidate the force of female members of Jarkam within the 40 villages (33,600 lives), from statistic of District Minahasa. Jarkam hopes to gain 50 % women to join the movement and make significant contribution for the ecosystem rehabilitation.
2. To initiate environment recovery action.Starting from seedlings, planting and further. It is widely hope that the action will not stop. It could be daily agenda for Jarkam member.
Activities:
[1] preparation and discussion,
[2] planting of cempaka and mahogany trees
Expected Output:
(1) To increase sensitivity and awareness of Jarkam women on the enviroment and livelihood crisis within their area
(2) Jarkam women will organize concrete action to overcome crisis. 100 women of Tondano will plan minimum 10.000 trees within the DAS Tondano as initial effort in recovery and resource management.
(3) Jarkam women will nurture and sustain the planting effort and keep on planting.
