Project for studying and protecting Baabda forest
I. OBJECTIVES
The Project aims at protecting the forest which is the nearest to Beirut through achieving the following objectives:
1. Studying and protecting biodiversity
2. Environmental education
3. Sustainable development of the forest.
This will be achieved through highlighting the importance of biodiversity and combating:
? Trees cutting
? Land degradation
? Random harvesting
? Forest fires
? Random hunting
? Forest insects
? Severe grazing.
II. ACTIVITIES
? Determining forest boundaries and entrance points
? Rehabilitation of 500 meters of terraces
? Construction of a tower of 12 meters of height
? Preparation of personal equipment for combating fires for 2 groups of volunteers and 3 persons. Thirty site points in the forest will be determined.
? Buying equipment in order to observe the biodiversity
? Establishing a special nursery for medicinal and aromatic plants
? Building observation points for birds and wild animals
? Hiring 2 guards for the forest
? Raising awareness among the local community and the society as a whole
? Environmental education at a national level through the establishment of the discovery and educational path in the forest.
