Throughout SGP Guatemala?s 10 year experience.
Throughout SPG Guatemala?s 10 year experience, (with assistance from national and international partners) it has provided Rural indigenous organizations in the southwestern regions of Guatemala, based on their needs and priorities in the following categories: biodiversity; climate change; soil degradation; and international water, to escape extreme poverty.
The Rural community organizations have been taught through workshops on how to use the ¨Community diagnostic¨ and ¨Almanario¨ as an essential tool for community sustainability, self-esteem, teamwork, and project techniques to improve or gradually change their poor environmental practices and gender equity.
Due to SPG Guatemala?s objectives, indigenous community groups have proven that they may take ownership of their improved environmentally and sustainability
executed projects.

Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
Due to SPG Guatemala?s ¨Community Diagnostic¨ and ¨Almanario¨, all community participants must assist in completing the project in order to successfully complete their solicited project. As a result, successful projects have shown that when both men and women participate in all workshops and manual labor, administration of funds, their ability to positively complete and take ownership of their projects has increased, as well as their self-esteem and commitment to their future generations.
Gender Focus
SPG Guatemala focuses on improving the well-being of indigenous women, self-esteem, project involvement and leadership. In order to solicit funds through SPG, the indigenous community group?s executive board must consist of at least 3 women, and complete women?s participation is encouraged. However, men are not excluded from project participation.
