Community Based Interventions in Biodiversity (Indigenous Fodders) for Restoration of Livelihoods
The objectives of the project are to establish community-based germ-plasm bank, (live and seed material, of indigenous fodder species and their documentation in dry agro-climatic regions of Rayalseema in Andhra Pradesh. The project is a scaling up initiative of an earlier SGP project implemented by the sam organization to conserve and improve the productivity of indigenous fodder species of the project site. The project will motivate the communities towards cultivation and preservation of fodders species and demonstrate the organic practices for cultivation of fodder species. These measures will improve the nutritional status and disease resistance of the animals and prevent distress sales of livestock during drought. The project will also demonstrate the effective utilization of the received low rainfall through better moisture conservation methods in dry lands.

Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
Improving the productivity of the land (in the existing project site) by demonstration of organic methods, water conservation measures and fodder and livestock management will lead to increase in income of the community.
Notable Community Participation
Participatory approaches for fodder conservation and preservation would be employed in the project through Training programmes, regular meetings, participatory monitoring etc.
All the farmers in the 30 villages will be accessed to the benefits from the animal health camps that would be organized in these villages.
The linking of the community based germ plasm bank with the gram/ mandal samakhyas would help in bringing a sense of ownership among the communities
