Project Characteristics and Results
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
In addition to protecting the endangered Mountain Bongos, the project has help educate the communities living around the Aberdares and Mt. Kenya National Parks about the value of these protected areas in terms of their wildlife, plant life, and as water catchment areas.
Notable Community Participation
Through a broad education and publicity campaign, the project reached many segments of the population. These community members, with very diverse backgrounds and employments, have become volunteer wardens and protectors of the Mountain Bongo and have carried on education efforts on their own.
