Veljusa-tidy, green, water clean environment
Village Veljusa (near Strumica) is well known by its 11th century Byzantine monastery, frequently visited by tourists. The surrounding of the village and the monastery is distorted by illegal waste dumping grounds and widespread deforestation, causing land erosion and degradation. The project aim to reclaim the 6ha of land by initiating sustainable landscape management including planting indigenous trees and building landscape architecture by using natural resource materials (stone paths and climbing stairs), along with raising local public awareness on nature preservation.
