Veles kindergarden - examples for effective enery savings

The project aimed to install solar collectors systems in two objects in the kindergarten Dimce Mitrev in Veles and to educate 10 volunteers (interested citizens and Municipal authorities) on the importance of the Energy Efficiency and the benefit out of it.
This provided possibilities for financial savings used for continuation of the project in other buildings in the municipality; created a role model of an energy efficient municipality and ignited possibilities of expanding local small size businesses.
Through media, the general population indirectly got familiar with the techniques and the energy efficiency measures and possible usage of renewable sources of energy (solar energy).

Project sustainability

The grantee will continue to: Lobby the competent authorities for the use of solar energy in the public sector; Installing solar systems in national social kitchens for socially deprived families: Campaign for the effectiveness of using the renewable sources of energy to the local and regional level; Raise awareness among the youngest population for the protection of the environment, through the preparation of eco- musical for renewable sources of energy and its promotion at the national level.

The local population has got access to the new technologies of solar energy use in industrial and household purposes.

Notable Community Participation

Three educational workshops were organized where interested citizens had a opportunity to get familiar with the application and use of energy-efficient solar systems. App 500 pupils from the primary school St. Cyril and Methodius from Veles attended lectures and presentations on solar energy uses. Students beside theoretical lecture had possibilities to directly see models of the solar collector, a small water heater, as well as practical demonstrations on the model of airplane run by solar energy.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

prepared and presented TV spot on local TV 21, in a period of 10 months (1.11.2007-30.08.2008), through which the citizens of Veles were indirectly informed on the project activities and objectives - the use of renewable energy sources, with emphasis on solar energy, as constant, safe and most efficient source of energy prepared and distributed 350 interactive multimedia CD to educational institutions (5 primary and 4 secondary schools).

- In the kindergarten Dimce Mircev in Veles, 10 panels and 2 solar system connected to the boilers for hot water and heating system, as well as energy efficiency lightning system were installed.
