Participatory Management of Horse-riding Service in Dibeen Nature Reserve
Participatory Management of Horse-riding Service in Dibeen Nature Reserve
The project aims at organizing the horse-riding service in Dibeen Nature Reserve through participatory management that would ensure biodiversity protection in the area and achieve sustainable use of natural resources by the local community, at the same time providing visitors with a high quality tourist service. This initiative will coordinate with the socio-economic component of the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity in Dibeen Nature Reserve Project (GEF medium-size project).

The project will define the paths to be used for the horse trips within the reserve in order to minimize negative impact on plant cover. Three stations for the horses will be designated and provided with the necessary services, to receive visitors and organize tours. A plan will be developed in cooperation with horse owners to deal with the issue of grazing and fodder and the impacts on the fodder. An environmental monitoring programme of the new system, the pathes and stations will be prepared and implmented , including the impacts of animal waste.
